An EU mission visited Brazil in October 2011. They held meetings with Brazilian health authorities and also checked several gelatin plants, tanneries and slaughterhouses.
The purpose was to evaluate the controls in the country on the production of gelatin and also on the raw materials used in the production of gelatin for human consumption. All this in reference to products exported to Europe. According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (MAPA), all Brazilian gelatin industries will continue to be approved for export to the European continent.
All gelatin factories assessed were found to comply with all relevant European requirements.
Although a provisional report was announced two months after the visit, it has not yet reached the Brazilian authorities.
